Acceptance & Compassion for Parents

Acceptance

Learn to pay attention to yourself—your thoughts, feelings, needs, wants. And learn to really accept ALL aspects of your experience. Your time and attention naturally go to your kids—of course it does! It likely also goes to your partner, your job, your parents, your friends, your acquaintances…to everyone else but you! But how often do you stop…close your eyes…and direct your attention to what is going on inside of you?

Try this now. Stop. Close your eyes. Bring your attention to your body. What do you notice? How do you feel? Bring your attention to your mind. What do you notice? What’s happening in there? What are all those thoughts about? Can you accept what you observe?

We all need quiet. We all need space. We all need stillness. But how often do we, as parents, allow ourselves to have it? Almost never. We are always waiting for someone else to give us permission, to give us the quiet and the space and the stillness. We often want our kids to give it us.

Sign up for my workshop and I will give you quiet, space, stillness, and so much more!

Compassion

When we finally do come into quiet and stillness and turn the attention toward our feelings and our thoughts, it can be a really unpleasant experience! We notice all the anxious, negative, and often critical thoughts. And we notice the stress, anxiety, anger, resentment, guilt, shame, fear, and overwhelm that is burdening our bodies! The only way to be able to open up to and hold space for it all is with compassion. When we can respond compassionately to our own difficult experiences, it helps us hold space for our kids’ struggles, mistakes, big feelings, and imperfections.
